Baby Care
Changing Your Baby’s Diaper
You will be changing the baby’s diaper very often in the first few weeks, and you need to clean and dry your baby’s bottom with each change, otherwise, wetness may damage the baby’s skin, causing the baby to feel uncomfortable and get rashes. It is imperative that the baby’s diaper is changed every time it gets wet or dirty. Keeping all the materials for cleaning the baby’s bottom close by can help make the process a bit more convenient. In the first months it is better to use warm water to clean the baby’s bottom; and in the following months you can use wet wipes designed for babies. It also counts on what piece of furniture you change your baby’s diaper. If you use a piece of furniture specifically designed for this task, you will be able to easily and safely clean your baby’s bottom without annoying pain in your lower back, as you will be having all the materials you need at hand. As you will find yourself changing your baby’s diaper all too often, make sure you keep them occupied with a toy or draw their attention elsewhere for a more convenient cleaning. Before changing your baby’s diaper, you should wash your hands thoroughly, as with other cleaning procedures. When changing your baby’s diaper, you should also make sure to clean their bottom thoroughly every time. Always wipe from the front to the back if it is a baby girl. Each time you wipe your baby’s bottom, you should dry it with a soft cloth or paper and apply a protective cream. When changing the diapers, it is useful to keep the baby’s bottom ventilated for a while (of course, without making the baby get cold). Baby boys often urinate when you get to change their diapers; bear this in mind when changing their diapers and get a new diaper under them immediately in case they go just at that moment.
